As part of efforts to protect Indonesia’s mega biodiversity, the Ministry of Forestry and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched today a IDR 74.6 billion (USD 4.4 million) project to strengthen the country’s capacity in controlling invasive alien species with Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) funding support.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is supporting the provincial government of Riau in strengthening its Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems and capacity under the UN-REDD programme’s GREEN for Riau initiative. This support includes a comprehensive series of capacity-building workshops, covering from the governance to the technicalities of the MRV mechanism, jointly held by Riau province and FAO between August and December 2025.

Indonesian community-based and civil society organizations can soon access climate action grants of up to USD 75,000 (around IDR 1.25 trillion) in total under the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF-SGP), now implemented by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to finance community-led initiatives addressing global environmental and sustainable development issues.

The Community African Swine Fever Biosecurity Interventions (CABI) Programme, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), officially concluded on a high note today with a national dissemination workshop in Jakarta. The programme aimed to strengthen pig farmers’ resilience against African swine fever (ASF) while protecting livelihoods and strengthening national food security.

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations awarded Indonesia its first Globally Important Heritage Systems (GIAHS) certificate today at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The 2025 GIAHS Award Ceremony celebrated the country’s Karangasem Salak (snake fruit) Agroforestry System in Bali as one of 28 newly agricultural heritage designations across 14 countries.
