General situation during August 2026 Forecast for September 2026
The locust control campaign was successfully completed in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries, resulting in a calm situation for all locust species across all affected areas at the end of the reporting period. The lifecycle of the Moroccan locust (DMA) was completed in the Caucasus, while the lifecycles of the Italian locust (CIT) and Asian migratory locust (LMI) reached their final stages; the natural die off process is expected to continue during September. While control operations had already been completed in all Central Asia (CA) countries at the end of July, they were concluded in August in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation, with over 17 016 hectares (ha) treated that month.

General Situation during June 2011, Forecast until mid-August 2011 During June, fledging of the Moroccan Locust (DMA) occurred or started in all Caucasian and Central Asian - except in Armenia where DMA is not a pest- and its life cycle should be completed in Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. No further development is expected this year but egg-laying should be carefully monitored in areas where adult flights were reported to identify high density egg-beds.

General Situation during May 2011, Forecast until mid-July 2011 The situation further deteriorated in Central Asian countries after hatching of the Italian and Migratory locusts. In Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and probably Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, Moroccan Locust (DMA) fledging occurred while hopper development continued in Kyrgyzstan. General Situation during April 2011, Forecast until mid-June 2011 The locust situation started deteriorating from early April in southern Central Asian countries while it remained calm in Caucasian ones. In Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and probably Turkmenistan, Moroccan Locust (DMA) hopper development was in progress and more than 607 000 ha were treated up to mid-May.
