General situation during July 2026
Moroccan Locust (DMA) natural cycle has been completed in all remaining parts of Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the reporting period. In Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation, DMA mating and egg-laying started. Italian Locust (CIT) die off occurred in southern Central Asia, with mating and egg-laying progressing in other parts. Fledging began in Caucasus and the Russian Federation. Asian Migratory Locust (LMI) fledging and mating started in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Summer surveys of hoppers and adults (on egg-laying sites) continued in most countries. In July, control operations covered 682 762 hectares (ha) in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries.

General Situation during May 2010 Forecast until mid-July 2010 DMA hopper development is coming to an end in southern CCA countries and treatments will decrease, monitoring of remaining adult populations should continue to identify egg-beds in view of the 2011 locust campaign in particular in Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. CIT and LMI hatching and hopper development are ongoing and a significant increase of control operations is expected by the end of the forecast period.

General Situation during April 2010 Forecast until mid-June 2010 The situation related to the Moroccan Locust (DMA) deteriorated during April in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan with a significant increase of treated areas. A critical unprecedented situation arose in Georgia, where DMA infestations were detected along the border with Azerbaijan. In Kazakhstan, hopper control campaign started against DMA and CIT. Despite extraordinary rainfall in Caucasus during April.

General Situation during March 2010 Forecast until mid-May 2010 The locust situation was calm during March in the major part of the Caucasian and Central Asian regions due to weather conditions still unsuitable for hatching. In southern Central Asian countries, hatching of the Moroccan Locust (DMA) started from mid-March and control operations were undertaken against small bands of young hoppers over more than 50 000 ha.
