Morocco re-elected to the FAO Council: recognition of its commitment to food security

04/07/2025

The Kingdom of Morocco continues its active engagement within the FAO. Re-elected to the Organization's Council, it confirms its position as a key player in sustainable agricultural development and South-South cooperation.

Morocco reappointed for a new term

On July 4, 2025, in Rome, Morocco was re-elected as a member of the FAO Council for a new term covering the period 2026 to 2029.

This reappointment comes as the Kingdom has already been serving since 2023 as one of Africa's 12 representatives on this strategic body. Composed of 49 members, the Council acts as the executive body of the FAO, responsible for overseeing the implementation of decisions between plenary sessions of the Conference.

A stronger role in global agricultural governance

This re-election is seen as a sign of confidence from African member states and recognition of Morocco's leadership. It acknowledges Morocco's ongoing commitment to food security, sustainable agricultural development, and climate action, as well as its leading role in South-South cooperation.

An African voice at the heart of decision-making

Thanks to this mandate, Morocco will be able to make the voice of the African continent heard in the major policy directions for global agriculture and contribute to solutions that are more inclusive and tailored to the needs of countries in the South.

A commitment aligned with FAO priorities

Morocco's position is in line with the FAO's strategic objectives: transforming agri-food systems, strengthening resilience, ensuring equitable access to resources, and promoting the inclusion of young people and women.

Furthermore, by renewing its commitment to the Council, the Kingdom confirms its willingness to actively contribute to sustainable regional and international food governance.
