Strategic relaunch of South-South cooperation for sustainable development

Background and challenges

Morocco has incorporated the fundamental principles of human rights, gender equality, equitable access to justice and the right to sustainable development into its Constitution and international commitments.

Within this framework, the FAO supports inclusive and participatory governance through institutional capacity building, South-South and triangular cooperation, knowledge sharing and the valorization of national best practices, in connection with agricultural and rural policies.

Objectives

  • Strengthen national capacities to implement constitutional provisions and international commitments in the fields of human rights, equality, security and sustainable development.
  • Support South-South and triangular cooperation to promote inclusive, resilient development models adapted to the specific characteristics of partner countries.
  • Promote the coherence of public policies and international frameworks, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Support the sharing of Moroccan expertise in agricultural transformation, innovation and sustainability through targeted initiatives.

Focus areas

  • Capacity-building for institutions to implement and monitor commitments to human rights, equality and justice.
  • Formulation of a South-South and triangular cooperation strategy, in synergy with the Moroccan government and technical and financial partners.
  • Support for mobilizing resources and structuring public-private and North-South partnerships.
  • Support for capitalization and experience transfer via Pôle Digital's South-South Cooperation Center and other national platforms.
  • Promoting exemplary initiatives such as the Sustainable Oasis Initiative and the Sustainable Argan Tree Initiative in inter-country exchanges.
  • Support for the implementation of international treaties and conventions, as well as strengthening the national system for monitoring the SDGs, particularly in relation to food security, sustainable agriculture and climate.
Expected results
  • CCDD Output 4.1: Strengthened capacity to implement and monitor constitutional provisions and international commitments to human rights, equality, justice and sustainability.
  • FAO output 4.1: Strengthened capacity to monitor international commitments and consolidate South-South and triangular cooperation.
