Cairo – The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today with H.E. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, during which the Prime Minister received on behalf of H.E. Abd El Fatah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the FAO Agricola Medal.

The Director-General conveyed his warm congratulations to the President for the conferment of the prestigious Agricola Medal, which is the highest honour bestowed by the FAO Director-General. He highlighted that the medal is awarded to distinguished world leaders who have made exceptional contributions to advancing food security, poverty reduction, and improved nutrition, in alignment with FAO’s mandate.

Cairo - The FAO Director-General, Dr QU Dongyu, met today in Cairo with H.E. Badr Abdelatty, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, during his official visit to the country.

The Minister welcomed the Director-General and reaffirmed the Government of Egypt’s full support for the organization of the Third Global Working Conference of FAO Representatives hosted in Egypt. The Minister also expressed appreciation for the growing partnership and enhanced cooperation between Egypt and FAO.

Cairo/Rome – Director-General QU Dongyu opened the Third Global Working Conference (GWC) of FAO Representatives on Monday by calling on participants to adopt a proactive, agile, and forward-looking approach to ensure FAO’s strategies, programmes, and technical support remain aligned with the evolving needs of its Members.

Held from 8 to 10 December in Cairo and hosted by the Government of Egypt, the 3rd GWC facilitates direct dialogue between the Director-General, FAO Representatives, Core Leaders, and Senior Managers. The event aims to strengthen coordination between headquarters and decentralized offices. QU opened the conference by expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly for his hospitality and support.

The gathering comes at a pivotal moment as FAO continues to seek even greater effectiveness and efficiency as it embarks with implementation of the Organization’s Programme of Work and Budget (PWB) 2026-2027 for the next biennium. The GWC’s Sessions will focus on consolidating FAO’s strategic positioning, accelerating transformation of global agrifood systems, and exploring innovative financing mechanisms and partnerships to maximize impact.
