Standard Operating Procedure for Soil Enzyme Activities
04/03/2025
This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed through the collaborative efforts of the FAO's Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) and the International Network on Soil Biodiversity (NETSOB). The protocol outlines the methodology for assessing five key soil enzyme activities: β-Glucosidase, Arylsulfatase, N-acetyl-β-Glucosaminidase, Dehydrogenase, and Phosphomonoesterases.
Following a general introduction on the importance of soil enzymes as critical indicators of soil health, the document provides key considerations for sampling strategies. Each enzyme determination is then detailed separately, with step-by-step instructions to ensure accuracy and consistency in analysis. To access the full document, click here
