FAO’s Programme of Work in Uruguay
FAO’s technical cooperation in Uruguay has historically been characterized by the breadth of the issues addressed. The Organization supports the country mainly through cooperation with the different departments of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Public Health, Parliament, and other government bodies and institutions with responsibilities in areas that fall within the Organization’s mandate, as well as with private-sector institutions and other ministries.
The cooperation provided is always focused on areas of high priority for the country. The objectives and results established in the Country Programming Framework, a planning document agreed upon based on an analysis of the country’s main development challenges within the framework of the 2030 Agenda, as well as the priorities defined by the government.
In 2026, FAO and Uruguay are moving towards the development of a Country Programming Framework for the 2026–2030 period, updating FAO’s technical cooperation framework to support the country in achieving sustainable production, food security for the entire population, sustainable management of natural resources, climate change adaptation, and the reduction of inequalities.
