TeleFood all over the world
The TeleFood message "Food for All" was spread even further in 1999, with more concerts, sporting events, charity dinners, fundraising auctions, television and radio programme. Here are some examples:

The main global TeleFood event for 1999 – a mega-concert - was seen around the world by millions of people. The TeleFood message went out to a Caribbean beat during a three-hour musical extravaganza featuring the best island music-makers and guests at James Bond Beach, Jamaica. Thanks to the support of satellite companies more than 80 television and radio networks worldwide brought this TeleFood event into homes everywhere.

The Arab world opened its arms to TeleFood in 1999. Through the Arab Radio and Television Network a celebrity auction in Cairo reached millions of television viewers throughout the Near East, as well as the rest of the world. This first big Arab TeleFood event received an impressive level of pledges and donations. In addition, the Lebanese singer Julia Boutros dedicated her concert in Damascus, which was televised throughout Syria, to TeleFood.

Tenor Luciano Pavarotti
In Italy tenor Luciano Pavarotti attended a special event organized for FAO in Florence. Pavarotti declared: "To combat hunger I would love to be able to take a plane full of food and bring it to the hungry, but that wouldn't help anyone. To resolve the problem we must give the tools, the education, to people." Also in Italy a classical music concert conducted by Maestro Myung Whung Chung at the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome was dedicated to TeleFood.

In Spain, Radiotelevisión Española broadcast a three-hour prime-time television special. Café Quigano, Carlos Cano, Charlotte Church, Celia Cruz, Eternal, Juan Luis Guerra, the Gypsy Kings, Imperio Argentina, FAO Ambassador Miriam Makeba, Paloma San Basilio and Vanda Shepard were only some of the celebrities who participated in this very successful broadcast.

In Liberia, contributions to TeleFood were made during a live radio programme dedicated to the country's young people and produced by Star Radio. In Bangladesh, a concert as well as a "walkathon" took place in Dhaka. In El Salvador college- and university students launched a food collection campaign to help stop hunger in their country.

Argentina Televisión Color (ATC) broadcasted a special TeleFood programme featuring such artists as Soledad, Ariel Ramirez, Mariano Mores, Susana Rinaldi and Maria Elena Walsh. The programme that was conducted and animated by Mr Morales and Mr Cadoppi was seen throughout Argentina, as well as in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

Since initiated in 1997 TeleFood activities has raised more than 6 millions dollars for TeleFood projects. No money has been diverted for administrative costs, experts, training or meetings.
