« Les statistiques relatives à la consommation et à la sécurité alimentaires aux niveaux national et sous-national sont fondamentales pour mener des politiques efficaces et obtenir de meilleurs résultats en matière de développement. »

Over the last decade, the FAO statistics division has developed a standard methodology for analyzing food consumption data collected through National Household Surveys (NHS), and has put in place a software for facilitating data processing (the Food Security Statistics Module, FSSM).

More recently, thanks to collaboration with the World Bank (Computational Tools Team of the Development Research Group) and under the auspices of the European Union’s “Improved Global Governance for Hunger Reduction Programme”, the FSSM has been integrated into a more user-friendly software: the ADePT-Food Security Module.

ADePT-FSM facilitates the computation of a variety of food security indicators, including the average dietary energy consumption, the prevalence of undernourishment and the depth of food deficit:

Statistics are derived at national and sub-national levels. The sub-national population groups are functional to geographic, demographic and socioeconomic factors of the households and include:

• Region
• Area of residence
• Household size
• Income groups
• Household composition
• Groups by characteristics of the head of the household, including gender, age, education, economic activity and occupation
