Statistics Advisory Committee of Experts
Fourteenth Session
Rome, Italy, 15-16 September 2005
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE MEETING
The main role
of the FAO Statistics Advisory Committee of Experts (SAC) is to:
- Provide an outside perspective to our work, contributing
to the priority setting process that is essential if our work
programme is to remain focused on the needs of our users
- Contribute to the improvement of the quality of
FAO statistics
- Reinforce FAO’s efforts for national agencies
and other international organisations to adopt the statistical
standards that have been developed by FAO in the area of food
and agricultural statistics, in co-operation with Member countries.
In this respect, SAC is a key instrument in reinforcing
the co-operation both among countries and international organizations
and also between them. In particular, this body plays a leading
role in orienting the future direction of the international statistical
system in agriculture.
The SAC met for the first time in 1963, and for the
last time in 2004.
