It is estimated that about three-quarters of the genetic diversity found in agricultural crops have been lost over the last century. Animal species are endangered . FAO calls for global efforts in conserving, preserving and improving the few species that are left to the future generations.

Peter Kenmore is an FAO expert in Biodiversity and has experience in better ways to protect our ecosystems for a sustainable agriculture. He had this to say.

At the farm level, Asia has adopted good practices in agriculture and maintained species' varieties at a higher level. At a global level, countries will feel encouraged by the coming into force of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, in June 23, 2004. Again, Peter Kenmore.
