Since its launch in 2019, the Decade has been promoting integrated actions supported by cross-sectoral policies that address the environmental, economic and social dimensions of sustainable development. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is collaborating with the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) to strengthen the capacities of state and non-state actors to develop and implement public policies for family farming in Africa.

The European Parliament Committee on Agriculture invited FAO Chief Economist Máximo Torero to speak on the impacts of the war in Ukraine on global food markets. Torero stated that the war in Ukraine was exacerbating the already alarming figures described in the recently launched 2022 edition of the Global Report on Food Crises.

The training will complement other capacity building efforts by various actors in the country for agricultural policy formulation for government officials, private sector, academia, among others.
