Asociados que aportan recursos

En la campaña para lograr resultados en cada una de sus prioridades estratégicas, la FAO trabaja con una variedad de asociados que aportan recursos, instituciones financieras internacionales, el sector privado, fundaciones y gobiernos nacionales. Los socios pueden proporcionar apoyo financiero y no financiero, como intercambiar conocimientos y experiencia. La FAO promueve también las alianzas a través de la Cooperación Sur-Sur.

La labor de la FAO se financia con las contribuciones fijas y voluntarias. El presupuesto total de la FAO previsto para el bienio 2016-2017 es de 2 600 millones de USD. De esta cantidad, el 39 por ciento proviene de las cuotas establecidas pagadas por los países miembros, mientras que el 61 por ciento se consigue con aportaciones voluntarias.

Las contribuciones voluntarias de los países miembros y otros socios apoyan los objetivos estratégicos de la FAO y por tanto se centran en el logro de las metas de los miembros y en alcanzar los resultados acordados. A nivel de los países, la FAO garantiza que todos los proyectos y programas estén alineados con el Marco de programación por países, que representa las prioridades para la acción acordadas entre la FAO y los gobiernos.

La FAO ha identificado 11 áreas corporativas para la movilización de recursos donde existe un alto potencial para impulsar resultados concretos a nivel mundial, regional y nacional. Cada área conlleva un llamamiento para nuevas inversiones y un compromiso de rentabilizar el dinero.

La FAO y sus asociados ya están logrando resultados en estas áreas a través de sus Iniciativas regionales y los Marcos de programación por países.

El Plan operacional y la Estrategia de Gestión y Movilización de recursos de la FAO orienta los esfuerzos de la Organización para obtener recursos.

Opportunities for Partnerships

FAO provides partners with unique opportunities to demonstrate their values and commitment, and reach their humanitarian and development objectives, while contributing to a Zero Hunger World. FAO offers a wide range of partnership modalities to Member States and other resource partners who want to increase their investment in food and agriculture and collaborate with FAO to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

African Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF)

African Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF)

ASTF is an innovative Africa-led fund for mobilizing resources from one African country for the benefit of another, promoting intra-Africa collaboration.

Last year the ASTF successfully showcased African solidarity and demonstrated positive effects on the continent’s development toward eradicating hunger and malnutrition, eliminating rural poverty, and managing natural resources sustainably.

As of 2017, the ASTF allocated USD 37 million to 17 regional programmes and national projects, being implemented in 40 countries.

Flexible Multi-Partner Mechanism (FMM)

FMM funds are voluntary contributions not tied to a specific project but directly supporting FAO operations. The flexibility of pooled and unearmarked FMM funding makes it possible for FAO to allocate funds where they are most needed, anywhere in the world, and to any thematic area. As a result of FMM, progress in key areas of work, including on Antimicrobial Resistance, Resilience, Migration, and Climate Change, is possible. New strategic partnerships have emerged, and projects have stimulated cross-sectoral work, fostering synergies and new thinking, both within and outside FAO.

Belgium, the Netherlands, and Sweden were the first FAO resource partners to provide funds to the FMM. In 2017 Switzerland joined as a new resource partner for the FMM. With the original contributors renewing their commitment with generous contributions for 2016-2017, FAO was able to implement 17 new projects.

Portfolio of Priority Programmes

FAO is pleased to present a portfolio of programme priorities. It is organized around 12 focus areas, each highlighting a set of programmes that demonstrates where partnerships can tangibly scale up results.

The selection of programmes has been thoroughly screened by FAO's Business Development Task Force, composed of representatives from FAO's Strategic Programme Teams and Regional Offices. The chosen programme areas are based on FAO's Medium Term Plan and Member expectations. They are clearly aligned with achieving the SDGs and reflect successful results to be scaled up or replicated elsewhere new and innovative initiatives, and/or a response to emerging global concerns.
