The 10th edition of the Windows on agriculture in Senegal

Organized jointly by FAO Senegal and the Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale (IPAR), the 10th edition of the Windows on agriculture took place on April 14th 2016 in the context of the Foire internationale de l’agriculture et des ressources animales. This edition examined “How to improve food security and nutrition in Senegal through a human rights-based approach”. The Window on agriculture represents a multistakeholder platform where representatives of State Ministries, local communities, technical and financial partners, civil society actors, producers and research institutes in Senegal.

Seminar on the drafting of the Framework Law for Food Security and Nutrition in Costa Rica

To present the current drafting process of the Framework Law for Food Security and Nutrition in Costa Rica, a seminar was held at FAO headquarters on 24 May 2016. The draft Framework Law explicitly recognizes the right to adequate food and reaffirms its justiciability. It also promotes food security and nutrition as a mean to achieve the full realization of the human right to adequate food in the country.

Presentation of the study “The Impact of Gender Policy Processes on the Right to Food: The Case of Cambodia”, by Margherita Maffii

On 11 May 2016, the FAO Right to Food Team organized at FAO headquarters a seminar to present the findings of the study “The Impact of Gender Policy Processes on the Right to Food: The Case of Cambodia”. The study, presented by the author Margherita Maffii (Right to Food International Consultant), was undertaken to identify possible approaches for the development of activities on the right to food in the Kingdom of Cambodia, using gender policies and initiatives currently at work in the country as an entry-point.

The impact of gender policy process on the right to food: the case of Cambodia: validation workshop

A validation workshop was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 22 March 2016 with the aim of reviewing and validating the results of the FAO study “The impact of gender policy process on the right to food: the case of Cambodia”, while at the same time opening a discussion on the Right to Food and its applicability in the Cambodian context, offering examples from other countries where such approach is progressing.

Research Center on World Food Governance

Oviedo, Spain – On 1st February 2016, the University of Oviedo in Spain established a Research Center on World Food Governance. The Research Center contributes to gathering and making accessible information pertaining to the physical and economic access to adequate and sufficient food as well as promoting and facilitating access to knowledge and tools on food and nutrition security policy interventions.

South Asian Dialogue on the Right to Food successfully concluded in Dhaka

Dhaka – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in collaboration with Oxfam, concluded today the South Asian Dialogue on the Right to Food, an event jointly organized which called for the participation of a multistakeholders platform with members from government, national Right to Food networks of civil society organizations and movements, academia and think tanks, Oxfam and FAO, from four countries in the region India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh. FAO and Oxfam say it will promote an emerging right to food community of practice for improved food security in South Asia.

Bolivia developed the National Programme on Complementary School Feeding 2015–2020 to implement food sovereignty and Living Well (Vivir Bien)

The new Law on School Feeding of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, adopted in December 2014, aims to ensure the human right to adequate food, to strengthen the development of local production and increase school attendance rates. The Law n. 622 represents a step forward in the development of food sovereignty and the Living Well (Vivir Bien).

The South Asia Right to Food Conference ends with the elaboration of Dhaka Declaration

More than 2000 participants (from the governments, civil society, NGOs and International organizations) six countries from South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Myanmar and Bhutan) were gathered from May 30th till June 1st 2015 for the first South Asia right to food conference, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Review of the legislative framework and jurisprudence concerning the right to adequate food in Nepal

Now also available in Nepalese.
[10.10.2014] The FAO Right to Food Team, in collaboration with the FAO Development Law Branch and Office in Nepal, is pleased to announce the launch of the Review of the legislative framework and jurisprudence concerning the right to adequate food in Nepal. The review discusses overarching aspects of Nepalese law and jurisprudence dealing with this human right. It provides a critical assessment of constitutional as well as legislative provisions and offers a thorough analysis of Supreme Court jurisprudence pertaining to the right to food. In addition to judicial remedy, the review also covers non-judicial means of remedy against the violation of food rights. Finally, the review also offers a set of concrete recommendations, touching upon a wide range of aspects of the human right to adequate food.
