Newsletter N°2 - February 2008.
This edition of the Right to Food Newsletter starts by sharing impressions from the World Food Day on 16 October 2007. The unprecedented worldwide mobilisation to commemorate World Food Day 2007 on the theme of ‘The Right to Food’, confirmed the increasing recognition throughout the world of the important role of human rights in fighting hunger. World Food Day was a great opportunity to stress the importance of this human right, demonstrate the many successful cases and at the same time show how much work is still ahead of us to achieve its realization.
In addition, this edition also focused on the collaboration between the Right to Food Team and the FAO Forestry Department. One of the objectives of the Right to Food Team is to integrate the right to food approach into FAO’s regular activities and all sectoral areas. Thus, the Forestry Department and the Right to Food Team have been exploring concrete ways and means of collaboration by planning joint Right to Food and Forestry activities. The main objective is to support member countries through forestry in achieving human rights-based food security.
Finally, the newsletter also brings the readers up to date with news from the Right to Food Team Partners and their campaigns to fight hunger, namely FIAN´s campaign “Face-It-Act-Now and ActionAid´s campaign “HungerFree”.
