Recognizing the importance of PGRFA, the Conference of FAO, at its Twenty-sixth Session in 1991, agreed that a first Report on the State of the World’s Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture should be developed. The report would describe the current situation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture at the global level, and identify what is required to ensure their conservation and sustainable utilization, thereby laying the foundation for a Global Plan of Action.
