The event, co-organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, FAO, and WFP under the theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” featured speeches, exhibitions, and performances showcasing progress in agricultural transformation, climate-smart practices, and inclusive growth.

Trainers were drawn from various government institutions, including the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the Ethiopian Statistical Service (ESS), and the Ethiopian Space Science and Geospatial Institute.

Held on 27 March 2025 in Addis Ababa, the meeting brought together key stakeholders and partners to assess project progress, review recommendations, and outline the next steps to strengthen the National Forest Monitoring System (NFMS).

Japan is funding over JPY one billion (approximately USD 7.2 million) for a project that will be implemented by FAO in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture in Amhara, Tigray, and Afar regions over a four-year period. It aims to revitalize agricultural livelihoods, improve food security, and enhance climate resilience through the Farmers Field School (FFS) approach.

The project will empower farmers by introducing innovative climate-smart agricultural practices that will help farmers adapt to extreme weather conditions, restore degraded farmland, and improve crop production. With a strong monitoring and evaluation framework, the project aims to directly benefit over 27 000 smallholder farmers and reach an additional 242 000 individuals through knowledge sharing and capacity building. 

The main purpose of the exchange visit, scheduled to take place from 9 to 15 February 2025, is to support learning and experience sharing with Tanzania, which is considered to have more well-established and efficient Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) systems.
