World Food Safety Day / Multiagency event planned in Latin American region
For the sixth consecutive year, FAO, the Pan America Health Organization (PAHO), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the International Regional Organization for Agricultural Health (OIRSA), and the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (CCLAC) are joining forces to celebrate World Food Safety Day through a joint webinar, bringing together different actors from the agrifood chain to share knowledge and experiences.

World Food Safety Day / Poland celebrates!
In 2026, for the sixth year, we are proud to invite you to take part in our Polish initiative organized as part of the global World Food Safety Day observance established by FAO and WHO.

World Food Safety Day / Feira Viva – Safe Food for Everyone at University of Lisbon
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Lisbon, Portugal will hold a series of events on campus to celebrate World Food Safety Day.
The initiative is designed to bring together academia, food producers, public authorities, students, researchers, industry representatives and consumers in a participatory and science-based celebration of food safety.
The programme includes:
Scientific talks and short communication sessions (“Mini Talks”);
Hands-on workshops on fermented foods, breadmaking, kefir, miso and naturally fermented beverages;

World Food Safety Day / Japan food safety association event organized
The Japanese Food Safety Management Association (JFSM) is organizing a World Food Safety Day event. Aligned with this year’s theme, “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere,” the event will explore challenges (burdens) surrounding food safety and their solutions.
The event will focus on the entire food chain—from food production and manufacturing to distribution, retail, and consumers—and encourage engagement in multifaceted discussions designed to provide practical insights for all stakeholders involved in the food chain.

World Food Safety Day / Basque food science association to hold event in Bilbao, Spain
The Basque Association of Food Science and Technology (ACTAE) will celebrate World Food Safety Day at the FoodTech & Pick Pack Expo in Bilbao, which will take place at the BEC-Bilbao at the end of May. As part of activities related to World Food Safety Day, Japan Food Safety Management Association (JFSM) conducted a lecture and workshop at Visayas State University in the Philippines. Natural disasters have caused around USD 3 trillion in agricultural losses over the past 30 years and continue to trigger public health crises linked to unsafe food and water. To address these risks, FAO is hosting a webinar on 7 May 2026, focused on managing food safety in natural disaster settings.
The event will feature country representatives sharing practical experiences and will highlight key challenges and lessons learned that can serve as models for others. Additionally, new FAO infographics and guidance for consumers facing natural disasters will be officially introduced.
