Regional workshop on sampling for agricultural censuses and surveys. Montevideo, Uruguay
20 - 24 June 2011, Montevideo, Uruguay
The workshop was organized in partnership with Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), Uruguay and National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS) of United States at Montevideo as part of a global series of workshop on this theme. These workshops build on the topics discussed during the series of Round Table Meeting on the World Programme for Census of Agriculture 2010 (WCA 2010). Through these workshops FAO is responding to the need to build capacity in the countries for use of sampling techniques in agricultural census and surveys. In situations of resource constraint these techniques could provide viable and cost-effective options for making available reliable agriculture statistics.
Outcome
The Workshop provided training in the theoretical and practical aspects of sampling techniques to the participants from the region, particularly keeping in view the new modular approach advocated in the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2010. Plans of the countries for implementing the next round of agricultural census and surveys were also reviewed.
Participants
The participants were sampling statisticians and leaders of census, who are likely to play a role the planning and execution of agricultural census and surveys in their respective countries. Seventy-four participants from eighteen countries, viz., Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, República Dominicana, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay, Venezuela attended the workshop.
