Pillar 3
Support and follow-up to G20 Matera Declaration
Pillar 4
Longer-term solutions – developed to transform agrifood systems

Background

Hunger and malnutrition in all its forms – undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight and obesity – are major challenges from which no country is immune. More than 3 billion people worldwide cannot afford a healthy diet and more than 2.3 billion people lack access to adequate food.

The impacts of malnutrition in all its forms have profound consequences on peoples’ health and wellbeing, physical and cognitive development and livelihoods throughout their lifetimes and across generations.  In order to support countries to reverse these trends, and address the challenges and negative impacts associated with malnutrition, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) has produced the Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition that were endorsed by its members in February 2021.

Objective

Providing support to LAO PDR in using the Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition

The proposed project is aimed at providing support to LAO PDR in using the Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition, with the support of other specialized normative guidance, standards, and guidelines included in the FAO Evidence Platform for Agri-food Systems and Nutrition, to inform its national policy formulation and strengthen its institutional frameworks and capacities towards implementing nutrition actions in order to enable safe and healthy diets through sustainable agrifood systems.

Activities

The activities of the project will consist in:

  • Strengthening and developing capacity at national and sub-national level to review and update current agrifood systems-related and nutrition policies.
  • Sharing lessons and good practices on the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on Food Systems and Nutrition.
