High-level dialogue on innovation
Catalyzing innovation to accelerate the contributions of forests and forest products to the 2030 Agenda and beyond
MONDAY 22 JULY 2024
12.30–14.00 CEST
Sheikh Zayed Centre
Overview
Innovation is at the core of FAO’s efforts to accelerate progress towards meeting the SDGs and realize the aspirations of the Four Betters: better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.
The High-Level Dialogue on Innovation presents a unique opportunity to deliberate on the insights and recommendations outlined in the upcoming ‘State of the World’s Forests 2024: Forest-sector innovations towards a more sustainable future.’
It provides an important platform for FAO Members and other stakeholders to engage in discussions and catalyze action on innovations that promote the conservation and restoration of forests, while underscoring the potential of sustainable forest use in shaping the world’s societies towards a more sustainable future. By doing so, it contributes to advancing the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda and beyond.
Objectives
Members and other representatives will be invited to provide insights and recommendations to catalyze the following five enabling actions:
- Raise awareness of the importance of innovation and create a culture that fosters innovation to bring about positive changes;
- Boost skills, capabilities and knowledge to ensure that forest-sector stakeholders have the capacity to manage innovation creation and adoption;
- Encourage transformative partnerships to de-risk forest-sector innovation, provide opportunities for knowledge and technology transfer, and build appropriate safeguards;
- Ensure more and universally accessible financial resources to encourage forest-sector innovations; and
- Provide a policy environment that incentivizes forest-sector innovations.
