Over the past decade, countries working at the forest–agriculture interface have faced a persistent challenge – how to translate global policy commitments into practical, country-level actions that effectively halt deforestation while sustaining livelihoods and food production.   

Drawing on FAO’s Solutions-tree for Halting Deforestation, this side event will highlight how countries are advancing systemic approaches that combine strengthened land governance, sustainable production models, traceability and transparency systems, results-based climate finance, responsible commodity trade, forest-positive incentives, and improved data for decision-making. 

Bringing together representatives from Colombia, Australia, Mexico and Japan, the event will showcase complementary policies, technical systems and cooperation initiatives that contribute to sustainable agricultural value chains and broader efforts to halt agriculture-driven deforestation. Drawing primarily on experiences from the livestock sector, discussions will explore how traceability systems, integrated landscape approaches, results-based climate finance, sustainable production practices and international cooperation can help reduce pressure on forests while improving productivity, market access and resilience across agricultural value chains. 

The event aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, identify opportunities for scaling up successful solutions, and strengthen international cooperation in support of sustainable agrifood systems that contribute to halting deforestation and forest degradation.
