Isnawati Hidayah is pursuing a PhD in Economics under joint supervision at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), the Netherlands. She earned her Master's degree in International Development Studies, specializing in Economic Development, from Wageningen University and Research in 2019.
Isnawati is the founder, executive director, and an economic researcher at the ROTASI Institute (Institute for Rural Development and Sustainability), which was recognized as the Best Research Institute at Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards 2022, organized by the National Development Planning Agency (BAPPENAS). Moreover, she is now a member of Young Scientist Group World Food Forum.

In 2024, Isnawati was honored as one of the Top Agri-food Pioneers (TAP) 2024 by The World Food Prize Foundation, an organization established by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman Borlaug, for her contributions to the field of food and nutrition security.

In 2020, she also had experiences as research assistant at INDEF (Institute for Development Economic and Finance), Jakarta. 
Isnawati was active in community empowerment projects in coastal areas in 2016 with PUPUK (Association for Small Business Improvement) Surabaya and PT Saka Energi Indonesia. In 2021, she actively involved on initiating circular economy project to support food security in rural area (Indonesia).
Isnawati had also been involved in the Excellence in Research program in Economics of Development Department, Wageningen University. In addition, Isnawati had also been involved as a research assistant during her internship at Wageningen Economics Research in Den Haag in a project to map food consumption and expenditure in Uganda. 
Her research expertise: economics health, economics development, public health, inequality, food and nutrition security.
