Safety and quality of aquaculture products
Today’s consumers are becoming increasingly conscious of seafood safety, quality, freshness and traceability, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bearing in mind consumer-focused production, the GFCM is promoting compliance with food safety and hygiene standards and effective monitoring to help minimize food-borne health hazards and supporting certification and traceability to assure food quality and environmental performance, in line with existing international standards.
GFCM ACTIONS
- Provision of technical assistance to help countries comply with international standards, and to improve national legal frameworks related to the safety and hygiene of aquaculture food products.
- Provision of technical assistance for food quality improvement, aquaculture certification and traceability.
