The GFCM has developed a series of methodologies, protocols and guidelines to support Mediterranean and Black Sea countries in implementing harmonized data collection and monitoring activities. These frameworks facilitate the comparability and review of data across the region, thereby strengthening the provision of scientific advice and supporting evidence-based decision-making.

Specific technical guidelines have also been developed to support discards monitoring across fisheries operating in the GFCM area of application, as well as the implementation of GFCM recommendations related to vulnerable species interactions, including guidance on mitigation measures, safe handling and release practices, onboard observations and fishers’ awareness.
