In Honduras, Mesoamerica Hunger Free has supported the Honduran Government in the creation of methodological and knowledge tools that contribute to the design of evidence-based regulatory and public policy instruments, the decentralization and improvement of extension systems, and the strengthening of institutional frameworks. In this way, public entities have adopted innovative tools for informed decision-making and for strengthening family farming as a means to improve food security and nutrition.
These are some of the results achieved with the program’s support
- Establishment and operationalization of the Food Security and Nutrition Observatory.
- Formal approval of the definition and typologies of family farming.
- Development and implementation of the National Strategy for Family Farming.
- Development of a voluntary registration platform for family farmers.
- Programming and validation of an IT platform for monitoring child malnutrition at the municipal level.
- Development and scaling up of a territorial strategy for productive development through municipal programs supporting family farming, based on a pilot experience in San Marcos de la Sierra.
- Formation of producer organizations made up of families served by municipal family farming programs to facilitate their integration into markets.
- Formulation of a draft Family Farming Law and formal submission to the National Congress.
- Conducting a nutritional study of children under five years of age in five Tolupan communities in La Montaña de la Flor.
- Launch of the Center for Productive Innovations and Water Technologies.
- Creation of financial inclusion mechanisms and validation of innovative practices in the Association of Border Municipalities of Intibucá, the Commonwealth of Municipalities of Central La Paz, and the Commonwealth of Municipalities of Northern Choluteca.
- Creation of the Directorate of Family Farming within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
- Approval of the State Policy for the Agri-Food Sector 2023–2043.
