Proposal

Reboot The Earth is a global social coding initiative focused on developing tech-based solutions to combat the climate crisis. This year, the challenge zeroes in on Agriculture and Artificial Intelligence, with events unfolding from April to October 2025.

The Morocco edition will take place in Rabat on 18–19 September 2025, co-organized by:

  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • Digital Pole of Agriculture, Forestry and Drought Observatory, Ministry of Agriculture of Morocco
  • United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology (UN OICT)

Following Rabat, the Italy edition will be hosted at FAO Headquarters in Rome on 13–14 October 2025, as part of the Science and Innovation Forum.

This renewed social coding event aims to unite young computer programmers, scientists, and innovators from across the globe to address urgent climate challenges and agricultural transformation needs. The initiative's core objectives include harnessing the power of youth and cutting-edge technology to develop innovative solutions for climate change and agricultural sustainability, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing youth engagement and empowerment, and ensuring adherence to Digital Public Goods (DPG) standards.

 

Why Participate?

Across six global locations and one virtual hackathon, participants will leverage open data, AI, and emerging technologies across the agricultural value chain — including plant and animal production, equine sectors, water technologies, and soil conservation, etc…They will be able to:
– Build real solutions for real climate challenges and agricultural issues
– Collaborate with innovators and experts
– Contribute to global digital public goods
– Be part of a global innovation movement

REBOOT THE EARTH 2025

1. Addressing Climate Change & Agricultural challenges: Harness the power of young innovators and technology to develop solutions that contribute to mitigating and adapting to climate change, and a particular focus on agricultural transformation and sustainability.
2. Promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Reboot the Earth sought to align with the United Nations' SDGs, particularly focusing on technology-driven solutions that could positively impact multiple aspects of sustainable development.
3. Youth Engagement and Empowerment: The initiative emphasized involving young minds and encouraging their active participation in creating innovative tech solutions to address global challenges, with a specific focus on climate-related issues
4. Demonstrate the value of digital public goods as critical tools for climate action: Projects are expected to adhere to the DPG Standard, and therefore ensure they are not only built to be and aligned with the standards and best practices but also flexible enough to be adopted and adapted to meet new diverse needs that can help accelerate the attainment of the SDGs.
The multi-stakeholder from UN entities, civil-society, and private sector organizations will support the youth to generate technology solutions.
