Uplift the Rural Poor Uganda (URP) is a local non-governmental organization working in the Great Virunga Landscape in Uganda. Established in 2001 as a community-based organization and registered as a local NGO in 2023, URP supports rural communities living adjacent to protected areas. The organization works to improve livelihoods while reducing pressure on forest resources and critical habitats through community participation in natural resource management and local development planning. URP promotes biodiversity conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources while supporting alternative and sustainable livelihood options that enhance the wellbeing of forest-dependent communities surrounding protected areas in the Great Virunga Landscape.
