Cooperation policy

In 2016, the Russian Federation's assessed contribution to FAO equalled USD 12 million (2.4 percent of total assessed contributions). Voluntary contributions to FAO in 2016 totaled USD 6.4 million. Based on both assessed and voluntary contributions in the period 2012-2017 (as at end May 2017), the Russian Federation ranks 23rd, with total contributions of USD 79 million.

In 2017 (as of end of May), the Russian Federation contributed USD 3 million for the programme aiming at combatting the advance of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in food and agriculture in the Region of Europe and Central Asia. It is important to note that the voluntary contributions from Russia have exponentially increased over the past two years.

Sustainable Development Goals

Russia welcomed the adoption of the new 2030 Agenda for Development, and states that it is ready to support the successful implementation of this programme at all levels. 

The country’s official view is that finding a solution to the climate change problem is one of the key preconditions for achieving sustainable development. Russia is a global leader in the cumulative reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and compensates for the increases of the emissions in other countries and regions of the world. The Government often highlights the role of the Russian boreal forests that absorb around 600 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
