The Swine Research Institute (IIP), founded in 1972, is recognized as the leading authority in swine science and technology in Cuba.
Subordinated to the Swine Production Group (GRUPOR) of the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI), it conducts experimental research aimed at addressing specific aspects of pig farming, with applications also relevant to countries with similar climatic conditions, while protecting and preserving the ecological environment. Its research covers areas such as pig genetics, reproduction, and nutrition, as well as the design of facilities and the mechanization of labor-intensive processes, with a focus on the organizational aspects of swine units and the management of waste.
