The history of the National University of Education dates back to July 6, 1822, when the Liberator Don José de San Martín, by Supreme Decree, created the first Normal School of Preceptors, a date that gave rise to the celebration of Teacher's Day.
From 1955 onwards, the University developed significantly, and produced important curricular changes that contributed to the Peruvian educational system, such as the conception of the comprehensive curriculum, which highlighted academic excellence in teacher training. For these merits, Law 12502 gave him university hierarchy.
In 1956 he implemented the professionalization regime for teachers in practice without a pedagogical degree. It was the first institution to provide this service to the national teachers. In 1965, ratifying once again its significant contribution to the education of the country, by law 15519 it became the National University of Education, a fact that took place two years later, on May 23, 1967.
