The Norwegian Polar Institute (Norsk Polarinstitutt) runs management-oriented scientific research, mapping and monitoring in the Arctic and Antarctica. Climate, environmental pollutants, biodiversity and geological mapping are important fields of work for the institute. 7 March 1928 is the natural date to recognise as the inauguration of the Norwegian Polar Institute.
