WFD 2009 PSA  2009 Ref.: 6666

WFD 2009 VIDEO FEATURE  2009 Ref.: 2699

Food insecurity in around 30 countries is severe enough to warrant emergency assistance. But if we are to achieve the goal of achieving food security in times of crisis, development efforts must go beyond coping with today’s problems by addressing the challenges of the future. This short video illustrates how in Afghanistan, and throughout the developing world, sustained investment is the only way to shockproof the agriculture sector against future crises.

SOARING FOOD PRICES IN BURKINA FASO  2008 Ref.: 2694

The shock of soaring food prices hit Burkina Faso particularly hard. In normal years, villagers produce enough to take care of themselves. But last year the rains didn’t come - until the season ended with floods which destroyed most of the crops. FAO is supporting the government, with a distribution of four hundred tonnes of seed and fertilizer to 1200 families in the arid Center North region.
