COFI33 - Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities in the Conservation, Sustainable use and Development
Rome time
Aquatic genetic resources (AqGR) underpin the productivity and sustainability of world aquaculture and capture fisheries, and the essential services provided by aquatic ecosystems. The conservation, sustainable use and development of these resources will play a critical role in meeting future demands for fish and fish products. FAO, through the Commission on Fisheries and the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, has worked with member countries to prepare a report on The State of the World’s Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, based on 92 Country Reports, with these countries representing >96% of global aquaculture production. The objectives of this side event are to present the key findings of the Report highlighting the identified key gaps and needs and to discuss the way forward through working together in strong and effective partnerships.
