The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will be present at two events:

Climate resilient agriculture: contributions of integrated water resources management

Day 23/10/2023
Start time 12:30
End time 13:30
Room Contadora IV, Marriott Panama Hotel, Albrook Mall

Background

FAO, together with the Platform for Climate Action in Agriculture in Latin America and the Caribbean (PLACA), the Ibero-American Conference of Water Directors (CODIA), and the Global Water Partnership Central America (GWP CAM), will hold this event to share experiences and climate-adapted practices in agriculture, discuss strategies to increase water productivity, planning tools to address water-related threats such as droughts, address climate risk management, present national drought plans, explore early warning systems and the development of indicators and metrics to monitor water productivity and water stress.

Objetive

The objective of the event is to strengthen technical and political dialogues to coordinate the climate change, agriculture, and water agendas in the region, fostering collaboration between governments, international organizations, academic institutions, and civil society. In addition, to facilitate the exchange of strategies to address the challenges of climate change in agriculture, with a focus on water-related issues, including integrated water resources management, water use efficiency, climate risk management, support to national drought plans, and monitoring of water productivity and stress.

Loss and damage assessment in agri-food systems

Day 24/10/2023
Start time 13:30
End time 14:30
Room Amador II, Marriott Panama Hotel, Albrook

Background

The event, organized by FAO in conjunction with UNDRR, IOM, GEF, PIK (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research), and the University of Kassel, will provide insights on how the combined scientific and policy communities can support evidence-based decision making and translate it into concrete actions on the ground, thus linking to ongoing international processes, in particular in the context of the Santiago Network on Loss and Damage, and Loss and Damage funding arrangements for developing countries.

Objetive

The objective of the meeting is to advance in an exchange to understand the losses and damages in agriculture and food production, as well as in distribution systems, and the key to reduce them and, therefore, to strengthen the resilience of agri-food systems.
