FAO Liaison Office with the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium

World Food Day 2023, ‘’Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind’’

30/09/2023

At this year’s World Food Day, and with the support of numerous national entities, organizations, companies and personalities, FAO is raising global awareness about water.

With the slogan ‘’Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind’’ the campaign, is communicating in over 50 languages across more than 150 countries. We are calling for action from governments, the private sector, civil society, and individuals, including youth, to safeguard water.

The FAO Liaison Office in Brussels will celebrate World Food Day 2023 by delving into the multifaceted aspects of water in agriculture, including its role in irrigation, sustainable land management, and the mitigation of both floods and water scarcity. Together with our partners and FAO regional and country representatives, we aim to share experiences and raise awareness on the importance of water as a source of food and life. Together, we can take water action for food, and be the change.

The event, to be held on World Food Day, at Belgium's Royal Institute of Natural Sciences, at the heart of Brussels, will mark one of the numerous events and outreach activities organised by the FAO Liaison Office in Brussels as part of our World Food Week campaign. With the support of City of Brussels, the Council of the European Union, the Galerie de la Reine, ClearChannel, NGroup Radio, ANT1 Radio and Television Cyprus, RIK National Radio and Television Cyprus, UCLouvain, APNUAquarama Trade Fair, and many others, we are committed to spreading the message that ‘’Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind’’.

The Global World Food Day Ceremony will take place on Monday, 16 October 2023 at the FAO headquarters in Rome and will kick-start a series of global events. The third edition of the Junior World Food Day will take place on 19 October 2023.
