Recognizing that adaptation is a globally significant issue, the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) was established under the Paris Agreement to boost work on adaptation with the aim of building adaptive capacity, strengthening resilience, and reducing vulnerability to climate change. However, the path to assessing the GGA has been slow and complex due to methodological challenges in defining targets, measuring adaptation and the lack of a universal metric.

The first traces of cotton growing in Azerbaijan date back thousands of years. During the Soviet era, it was referred to as "white gold," accounting for approximately 25 percent of agricultural revenue. However, the transition to a free market economy, coupled with the rapid growth of alternative industries in the 1990s, contributed to cotton losing its key role. Production fell to a record low of 31 000 tonnes in 2009, compared to more than 830 000 tonnes in the 1980s.

A new report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has put a spotlight for the first time on the link between climate change and the scourge of child labour, which affects roughly 160 million children globally with African agriculture at the epicentre. The report has found that the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events is forcing some children to work at greater intensity and duration. These children engaged in child labour are the unseen victims of climate change.  

Take a deep breath. Now ponder this: the big, blue ocean that covers 71 percent of the Earth produces over 50 percent of our oxygen. The ocean is also key to cooling the planet, absorbing 90 percent of the excess heat caused by global warming and capturing 25 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions.

We need to talk about plastics. Plastic products have become a convenient tool in many areas of life, and agriculture is no different.
