FAO has joined hands with partners to launch the Facility for Action for Climate Empowerment to achieve Nationally Determined Contributions (FACE-NDC) project. The project partners include the Copperbelt University, the University of Zambia, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has welcomed the renewal of its accreditation by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), a decision announced this Wednesday during the 37th meeting of the GCF Board. The reaccreditation reaffirms FAO's unwavering dedication to advancing climate action through agrifood system transformations and supporting countries in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

The Mediterranean Sea is being invaded by hundreds of fish, jellyfish, prawns and other marine species from outside the region.

More than 1 000 non-indigenous species have been identified in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Over half have established permanent populations and are spreading, causing concern about the threat they pose to marine ecosystems and local fishing communities.

Agriculture has been around for more than 10 000 years. In that time, it has not only given us food, shelter, and livelihoods, but also knowledge, traditions, innovations and ecosystem services. However, with many ecosystems pushed beyond their capacity, agriculture now needs to provide all these benefits – and more – while being more responsive to the environment.

On 25 January 2023, I visited Pandiénou, a village in the Thiès region of western Senegal, together with Québec's Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie, Martine Biron. During this visit to a Farmer Field School (FFS), we met local women and youth who face the impacts of climate change on a daily basis. I listened to their stories and learned about the benefits of hands-on group learning. Pandiénou is more than a village; it encapsulates both the challenges facing smallholder farmers across Senegal and the solutions to tackle the climate crisis that exists within communities. I witnessed firsthand how the FAO Strengthening Agricultural Adaptation (SAGA) project fosters community engagement, resilient agriculture, and sustainable development.
