IMP-ACT: Supporting climate-resilient, inclusive and low-emission agrifood systems
The "Supporting climate-resilient, inclusive and low-emission agrifood systems" (IMP-ACT) project is designed to help countries advance climate-resilient, inclusive and low-emission agrifood systems.
The EUR 6.5 million project, which is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), runs from 2025 to 2030.
IMP-ACT Channels
IMP-ACT is organized around the following outcome areas:
- National climate action: Strengthening countries’ capacities to translate their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and national adaptation plans (NAPs) into inclusive and evidence-based policies, implementation plans and investments in agrifood systems; and
- Global advocacy: Building global advocacy and partnerships to raise the profile of agriculture and food security in global climate change negotiations and climate finance agendas.
Multi-level climate action
IMP-ACT aims to advance climate action in agrifood systems at three levels: global advocacy and partnerships; national policies, plans and investments; and local implementation and impact.
In terms of national support, IMP-ACT's initial focus is on advancing climate-resilient, inclusive and low-emission agrifood system transformation through NDC and NAP implementation in three core countries:
Ethiopia
Pakistan
Perù
The countries represent varying stages of economic development and NDC/NAP implementation readiness, as well as differing agroecological and geographical contexts across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Building on success
IMP-ACT builds on the experience and lessons learned from FAO's previous projects with Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on “Enhancing Ambition in NDC 3.0” and “Enhancing Agrifood Negotiations” .
The project leverages synergies with ongoing projects in recipient countries and deepens collaboration with other global and regional and global initiatives on climate action. In particular, IMP-ACT will build on the results and ongoing work of the FAO-UNDP “Scaling Up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture through NDCs and NAPs” (SCALA) programme and the Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) partnership. It will also enhance the work of FAO’s NDC help desk supporting countries to embed agrifood solutions with their national climate plans.
