Global Forum for Food and Agriculture - Expert panel discussion

In 2019 the Berlin-based Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) takes place under the theme “Agriculture goes digital – Smart solutions for future farming”.

From 16.00-17.15 hours FAO is organizing an expert panel discussion entitled “Big data for transforming smallholder agriculture", jointly with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA).

Realizing trends, insights and prediction from large agricultural data sets, and using digital tools for advisory services have huge potential for smallholders. However, to use it effectively, data protection, governance, and rightful access should be ensured. The session will explore the potential of big data analytics, digital solutions and policy implications of these in transforming smallholder agriculture.

The panel will bring together experts of digital agriculture from across the globe to discuss burning question related to big data, such as governance, chances and potential, data ownership, and many more.
