Joint effort for conservation and use of plant genetic resources in Belarus - Conference

The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Research and Practical Center of NAS for Arable Farming will organize a final event for the project “Strengthening National PGR Program in Belarus” (TCP/BYE/3601).

The aim of the project has been to enhance the conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture in Belarus to conduce towards a sustainable agricultural development.

The project has supported during its lifetime 2017 – 2019, the development of a national strategy and programme on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PGRFA), establishment of the National Information Sharing Mechanism, provided capacity building and training on conservation and use of PGRFA and strengthened the cooperation among the PGRFA stakeholders in the country.

With the project coming to its end in March 2019, a conference will be organized in order to share and discuss the project results and inform and raise awareness about ongoing capacity and policy development activities within FAO and different International Treaties.

Together with the project participants representatives from the Belarus Ministry of Agriculture, the National Academy of Science, FAO, and internationally recognized PGRFA experts are invited to the workshop.

Venue:  The conference will take place at Marriott Hotel in Minsk, Belarus on 19th of March 2019.
