Strategies for the Promotion of Conservation Agriculture in Central Asia - International Conference

Hybrid Event, 05/09/2018 - 07/09/2018

Four decades of Conservation Agriculture (CA) research and development activities in many regions across the world have enabled CA systems to be established in different countries and cropping systems, based on the joint effort of national and international organizations. Currently (2015/16), farmers globally practice CA on some 180 M ha of cropland corresponding to about 12.5% of global cropland). Initially CA was promoted by farmers in the USA and Brazil, but since 1990, countries such as Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Australia have adopted CA over a wide area. Successful CA experiences can be found also in many other countries in all continents including Europe, Russia, Africa and Asia, including in Central Asia and Caucasus, West Asia, South Asia, South-East Asia and East Asia. Despite being implemented in diverse agro-climatic areas worldwide, the current level of practice of CA in Central Asia countries is relatively limited and needs to be promoted for a broader adoption in the region.
