Training of Trainer’s Workshop on Farmer Field Schools

Hybrid Event, 25/06/2019 - 26/06/2019

FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will train the trainers who will be deployed to the farmer field schools which are supported under the “Sustainable Land Management and Climate-friendly Agriculture” project carried out in Konya Closed Basin, targeting to strengthen the capacity of farmers, both men and women, to apply conservation agriculture practices to prevent land degradation in the region. The training will focus on effective planning of FFS programmes, awareness raising and capacity building, conservation agriculture, ecosystem services and summer crops in 2019. The project is financed by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and implemented in close collaboration with Turkey's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Farmer Field School approach is being tested in this project for the first time in Turkey on a wide geography around Konya province. The objective of these FFSs are to enable farmers to analyse the ecological processes, find solutions to the problems they have encountered in their fields and create awareness about their ecosystems, in view of challenges of climate change and sustainable land management through supporting the management of natural resources with a participatory approach and increasing the local knowledge on the ground.
