International Plant Protection Convention regional workshop 2023

Podgorica (Montenegro), 04/09/2023 - 06/09/2023

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is an intergovernmental treaty signed by over 180 countries, which aims to protect the world's plant resources from the spread and introduction of pests, and promote safe trade. The IPPC regional workshops help participants understand the regional phytosanitary realities and challenges, and better integrate these into the IPPC work plan.

The main objectives to the IPPC Regional Workshop:

  • learn how to analyse draft standards (ISPMs) and formulate productive comments using the available draft ISPMs for member consultation;
  • build phytosanitary capacity and raise awareness on all activities related to the Convention;
  • exchange national experiences at the regional level.
Recently, the IPPC regional workshops have become more interactive and been re-organized as a forum for the exchange of ideas and feedback between national plant protection organizations (NPPOs), regional plant protection organizations (RPPOs), FAO offices, cooperation institutions and the IPPC Secretariat. These new ways of operating allow the IPPC Secretariat to get a better understanding of NPPOs’ concerns, and to promote synergies and collaboration between all interested parties.
