FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia

Launch: The State of Food Security and Nutrition in Europe and Central Asia 2022

Virtual Event, 14/03/2023

11:00 – 12:00 (CET)

In 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) renewed the commitment to ending hunger and malnutrition and reducing premature mortality caused by non-communicable diseases. With the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its ambitious goals for a more sustainable and equitable world, countries committed to regularly monitor and report on the progress.

Since then, FAO has also increased its efforts to monitor food security and nutrition related SDGs in Europe and Central Asia through the publication of the annual Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition report. The 2022 edition was prepared jointly by the eight members of the Issue-based Coalition on Sustainable Food Systems for Europe and Central Asia: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia; the International Fund For Agricultural Development (IFAD) for Near East, North Africa, Europe and Central Asia; the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia; the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE); the World Food Programme (WFP) Regional Bureau Cairo for Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe; the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe; and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Regional Office for Europe.

At 11:00 a.m. on 14 March, FAO and the co-publishing partners will present the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition 2022 in English and Russian languages. The virtual event will feature panel discussions with representatives of the eight partners to highlight the main findings of the report in a lively manner.
