Rome - Mechanization can be a powerful force for change, but only if it is environmentally sustainable and leaves no one behind, especially women and smallholder farmers, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), QU Dongyu, said today as he opened FAO's first-ever Global Conference on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization.

Participants from multiple sectors and around the world gathered in Rome today for the opening of the first-ever Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation. Hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the event aims to address the pressing challenge of how to produce more with less environmental impact, less social impact and more economic return with greater equity.

 International food commodity prices declined in August, led by staples other than rice and sugar, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reported today.

The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks monthly changes in the international prices of globally-traded food commodities, averaged 121.4 points in August, down 2.1 percent from July and as much as 24 percent below its March 2022 peak.
