SSF Forum

The Small-Scale Fishers’ Forum (SSF Forum) brings together small-scale fishers and fish workers from the region to share knowledge and good practices. In line with the Regional Plan of Action for Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (RPOA-SSF), it contributes to strengthen capacities and skills. It also supports the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines), which promote capacity development and of SSF communities’ participation in decision-making.

Target participants

Small-scale fishers, fish workers, representatives of SSF organizations and other relevant stakeholders from Mediterranean and Black Sea countries are encouraged to register for the SSF Forum workshops. Small-scale fishers and fish workers actively working in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea are given priority, while other stakeholders may be accommodated subject to available space and funding. Special attention is given to ensuring the participation of women and young fishers.

Languages

Interpretation is provided, where possible, in as multiple languages, depending on the needs and preferences of participants.

Eligibility and selection

The application form for each workshop is available in the corresponding workshop information.

The GFCM, in coordination with the Friends of SSF platform, reviews applications and evaluates eligibility as well as the provision of funding support. If applications exceed the available places in a specific workshop, participants are selected based on the relevance of the workshop to their work. A balanced representation of geographical areas and gender among SSF Forum participants is also sought.
