The Committee on Forestry

The Committee on Forestry (COFO) was established by the Conference at its 16th Session in 1971. COFO reviews the programmes of work of the Organization in the field of forestry and reviews forestry problems of an international nature, evaluating said problems with a view to concerted action by Member Nations and the Organization.

The comprehensive terms of reference of the Committee are prescribed in Rule XXXI of the General Rules of the Organization.

COFO reports to the Council on programme and budgetary matters and to the Conference on policy and regulatory matters.

The Committee meets in regular session once a biennium in non-Conference years, and may hold additional sessions when necessary.

Membership

The Committee on Forestry is open to all Members who notify the Director-General in writing of their desire to become Members and of their intention to participate in its work. The notification may be made at any time but not later than 10 days before the opening date of a session. Membership acquired on this basis shall be considered valid unless the Member has not been represented at two consecutive sessions of the Committee, or has notified its withdrawal from it.
