El Niño conditions off the Peruvian coast have cut global supplies of both fishmeal and fish oil. Unlike the 2023 to 2024 event, the 2026 El Niño has followed only three years after its predecessor, arriving at a time of low reserves for both commodities. At the same time, reduced quotas for small pelagics among secondary producers are compounding the shortfall.
